Florian Kugi is a Vienna-born double bassist whose artistic work focuses on orchestral performance and a wide range of ensemble collaborations. Known for his reliability and stylistic versatility, he regularly performs with many of Austria’s leading musical institutions. Born in 1992, Florian Kugi began his musical education on the piano before turning to the double bass. He started his studies with Professor Bernhard Ziegler and later continued at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Professor Josef Niederhammer and Professor Christoph Wimmer. His artistic training was further enriched through masterclasses with Ernst Weissensteiner and Peter Herbert. He gained extensive orchestral experience with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and regularly performs as a substitute musician with the stage orchestra of the Vienna State Opera. Further engagements have included appearances with the ORF Radio-Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Stadttheater Baden, and the Tonkünstler Orchestra of Lower Austria. In addition, he has participated in projects with the Opernball Orchestra, the Beethoven Philharmonie, and numerous other ensembles in Vienna. Concert tours have taken him to Poland, Germany, France, Japan, Switzerland, Italy, and Belgium, reflecting the international scope of his artistic activity.
