Lukas Medlam is a British-Austrian musician, born on 31 December 1985. At the age of five, he received his first piano lessons and was initially taught the violin by his mother, Ingrid Seifert. He subsequently continued his violin studies with Prof. Itzhak Rashkovsky at the Royal College of Music in London. Alongside his musical training, he completed a four-year Master's degree in Physics at Imperial College London, graduating with distinction. As part of his studies, he received a scholarship to the University of Padua in Italy, where he participated in a biophysics research programme and became fluent in Italian.
Between 2007 and 2018, Lukas was a permanent member of the music team aboard P&O cruise ships — both as a soloist and as first violinist of the Medlam Quartet. These engagements took him through the Baltic, the Caribbean, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, and as far as Spitsbergen.
His compositions have been presented on some of Vienna's most prestigious stages. In 2014, he performed his "Romance for Violin & String Orchestra" as a soloist at a sold-out gala evening in the Brahms Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The following year, three of his works were premiered at the Schönbrunn Palace Theatre.
Lukas is highly active in the Viennese orchestral scene. He regularly performs as a substitute with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and accompanies the ensemble on numerous tours. He also frequently takes on engagements with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra. In addition, he directs the Classic Ensemble Vienna, which presents a year-round concert series at the Peterskirche. Beyond classical music, he works as a jazz pianist at a Viennese venue and continues to accept composition commissions.
