Matyas Andras is a Hungarian violinist whose early talent earned him a place in the class for highly gifted students at the Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest at the age of twelve. He had begun his violin studies at the age of six. From 2010, he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Prof. Edward Zienkowski as well as in the class of Prof. Yair Kless at the University of Arts Graz. He completed his master's studies in 2017 with distinction.
His competition successes testify to his musical versatility. In 2010, he was awarded the 2nd Prize at the Leo Weiner Chamber Music Competition in Budapest, followed by the 1st Prize at the Josef Dichter Competition in Vienna in 2012.
As a dedicated chamber musician, Matyas performed with the Marcel Rubin Quartet on stages in France, Mexico (Palacio de Bellas Artes), the USA (Carnegie Hall), and China. He is co-founder of the Duo Alard and the Equalis Quartet. In February 2015, the Equalis Quartet reached the semi-finals of the "Schubert and the Modern Age" competition and was accepted in the same year as a candidate at the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA).
Since 2021, Matyas has been serving as 1st violinist with the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra.
