Martin Reining is a versatile and sought-after chamber musician and concertmaster based in Vienna. As a member of the Atmosquartett Wien, he has received multiple awards for his chamber music work, including the 1st Prize at the International Schubert Chamber Music Competition in Ruse — along with the Special Prize for Best Schubert Interpretation —, the 3rd Prize at the Josef Windisch Competition, the Polish Music Prize, and the Prize for Best Contemporary Interpretation at the International Summer Academy Vienna–Prague–Budapest.
As concertmaster of the Divertimento Viennese, Martin is dedicated to the rediscovery and performance of works by persecuted composers of the 1920s and 1930s — in both light entertainment music and the classical concert repertoire. He also regularly serves as concertmaster with leading orchestras, including the Vienna Academic Philharmonic, the Young Philharmonic Vienna, the Imperial Orchestra, the Webern Symphony Orchestra, the Austrian-Japanese Philharmonic, Sinfonia Wien, and the Camerata Viennensis.
At the heart of Martin's artistic profile is his thoughtful approach to the dramaturgical design of concert programmes. This is reflected in his ongoing performances of the complete cycle of Biber's Rosary Sonatas as well as in his work on cross-genre projects — including collaborations with artists such as Gentleman and Neuschnee —, which reflect his commitment to bridging the worlds of classical and popular music.
